: : I have several mild symptoms of IBS, but can control it with diet easily. The big problem is the tight, burning feeling I get below my breastbone, and occaisionally it will spasm TERRIBLY, and I double over in pain unable to breathe hardly. It lasts for about ten minutes, just long enough to get to the er for them to tell me there is nothing wrong. I don't get heartburn, the symptoms are better with BM's, I get plenty of fiber, no caffeine, spicy food, etc, etc. My doctors always want to put me on something like Prilosec, which helped, for a while, Prevacid and Zantac only mildly help. I had an upper GI, and abdominal ultrasound, which reveiled absolutely NOTHING, and the docs seem perfectly content to not know what is wrong with me. I am scared and frustrated, and just want to know if anyone out there has had these terrible spasms (in duodenal region) and if so, is Pancreatits, duodenitis, Hiatal hernia, WHAT?!?! Thank you for your help! Sarah.

: You may think you get plenty of fiber but why not give psyllium a try. That is metamucil or equivelant and take with a LOT of water. Start out with low dose and work up to1 or 2 tbsp. per day. If this doesn't help, at least it won't hurt you and you will be very regular.

:::: When I said I get plenty of fiber, I meant it, I take a double dose of metamucil two times a day, and drink at least 64oz of water daily- constipation has never been a problem. But thanks!
