: I just found this site and think it may be a godsend. I have had problems with my bowels ever
: sine I had emergency bowel surgery 8 years ago. Scar tissue from a tubal ligation had wrapped
: arround my intestine, completely shutting it off. I have been bothered with the big D and constant
: abdominal pain for years. Have been on Modulon for 4 months now, and pain is gradually coming back,
: and the bloating is worse than ever. I have also gained 20 lbs. over the last year- with no
: major changes to my eating habits. I frequently require doses of Pepcid AC too still the
: heartburn. How does one start to find out what might be the problem in the diet? HELP?

Hi Lois,
You must live in Canada---the medicine --Modulon is not in my reference books in the States. So,I don't know what you should do for pain --but for diarrhea you should take a water soluble fiber supplement. I wrote a reply to "Question?" by Jane posted on 11/01/00 ---My reply is Fiber Differences posted on 11/02.It may be worthwile reading and it includes a little about some foods. Start taking a fiber daily. It works.

With D---you need to avoid fried foods, dairy products, coffee and other things that contain caffeine, spicy food, nuts ,pastries, wheat products, sugar, processed food, all junk foods, orange and grapefruit juices, carbonated beverages, fats. These foods help make your system produce more mucus that keep your intestines from absorption of nutrients.
There are also foods that may trigger diarrhea but there is no set diet ----you just have to find those that give you problems and of course eliminate them from your diet.
God Bless---Harry
