: : : I am looking for any info on an enlarged kidney.
: : : When I had ultrasound done during pregnancy they noticed that the area(they called resorvoir) on the kidney was slightly enlarged on the baby. Now he is six weeks old and through an ultrasound they have found that his left kidney is enlarged.
: : : Is there anyone else who has had this experience and anyone who might have ideas of what it could mean?

: : Our daughter has an elarged kidney that was also discovered when I had an ultrasound. She had an ultrasound done at 4 weeks and will have another at 8. Our doctor says a likely cause is a blockage in the tube from the kidney to the bladder or a valve in the tube that opens the wrong way, letting urine back into the kidney. He is optomistic that it will correct itself. If not, she will need to see a urologist. The likely step then will be to inject dye into her bladder to see where it goes. If something needs to be surgically corrected, it will probably be done when she is 6 months old. If it is any consolation, our doctor told us not to spend a lot of time worrying about it (just a little.)
: ..I just found out that my sonn has a condition called Hydronephrosis, it's when that kidney is filled with water causing either an obstruction or reflux. He is two months old and he is going to be operated on for this condition. His kidney has become more enlarged then when I was pregnant and it was discovered through the ultrasound.

...My daughter was diagnosed at 14 months of age with an enlarged kidney. Since that time we have seen her peditrician monthly for UTI or symptoms of UTI. She has not been allowed any other fluids than milk, juice-preferably cranberry or cran mixtures, and water. We still continue to get infections dispite everything we try to do. She does not receive bubble baths and we have even taken the step to give her only showers so no soap residue will remain in the vaginal area.
Yesterday she had a follow up renal ultrasound and a VCUG-which the physician stated he saw now problems with reflux. So, now we wait for the results of the ultrasound. Please, if any one can shed any light on this situation, please do.
