Is anyone else devoid of emotion -- anger, joy, lust, passion, compassion, envy, rage, sorrow, embarassment, impatience etc.?
I have never felt any of these. I am basically "comfortably numb," having never experienced any real hardship. I have no responsibilities or worries. Situations which evoke anger in others cause no response in me. At the other end of the spectrum , I have never experienced extreme pleasure either.
As long as I'm not cold, hot, hungry, thirsty, sick or in physical pain, I am totally unaware of the existance of my body. Co-workers say my lack of emotional expression is not normal and I should "just let go" once in a while. They fear if I don't, I will "explode" one day, coming into the office with a gun and shooting everyone in sight. I don't consciously suppress or control my emotions, I just don't feel them in the first place.
I have difficulty understanding others and their emotions/mood swings, having never experienced them myself. I am not sexually attracted to women or men and find the effort and money others spend persuing the opposite sex very curious.
I believe the part of my brain which controls emotional response is either inactive or disconnected. I don'dt think I'm depressed, but maybe I am and just don't realize it.
I had a severe head trauma as a result of a car crash several years ago which put me in a coma for six weeks. Is it possible that this is the cause of my insensitivity?
