: My daughter was diagnosed with myostis a week ago , The doctor said dermatomyositis aka polymyositis , but i have found out they are not the same , however , juvenile myositis and dermatomyositis sound alot like each other . How can i tell which type she has ?? and does myositis go dormit for periods of time or is it awake all the time or dormit only when medicated ??

My mother Rosa da Silva was diagnosed with dermatomyositis five years ago. She was treated at the Deacones Hospital
here in Boston with styroids. Mom had been a uncontrollable diabitic for over ten years. She finally accepted the fact that she have to take insulin shots to help her get on the right tract.
However, her immune system was already to weak to accept the steroid treatment. We think if mom had not been a diabetic her chances of recovery with steroids would have been successful.

Good Luck.
