: My daughter was diagnosed with myostis a week ago , The doctor said dermatomyositis aka polymyositis , but i have found out they are not the same , however , juvenile myositis and dermatomyositis sound alot like each other . How can i tell which type she has ?? and does myositis go dormit for periods of time or is it awake all the time or dormit only when medicated ??

My daughter was diagnosed w/jvdm in Jan '96. So far her's has been in remission since June of 98. all the info i can find shows little chance of reoccuring after long term remission. I could be wrong, but so far it seems so. She has regained about 85% of muscle use and flexability, and continues to improve all the time. hope your daughter also leaves it behind.
