: Sorry, but I also forgot to tell you that last October I had a titanium cage put in my spine at L-5/S-1. Before that surgery I had occasional pain down left leg and into left foot (but nothing like this heat/swelling thing). Haven't had any leg pain or anything since that surgery. Have had back xrayed several times during the course of healing and everything there looks fine. No other symptoms except back has been a little achey every since surgery, but nothing unbearable - I need to exercise to strengthen the muscles. Could this leg/foot heat/swelling be coming from something in the back?

: Thanks again for any suggestions.

I think there is a possibilty the heat is coming from your back. However, I am not a doctor. I have a washer similar to the cage at L3-L4 and fusion thru S1. On top of other problems, I recently started having problems with the burning feet. I am looking into information about these titanium cages. Did your doctor tell you the cage is permenant? It seems the doctors are hush, hush about relating anything to these cages. However, I have encountered other people who have this burning feeling and do not have the cages. Nevertheless, they do have problems with the L4-S1 area. There seems to be little information about Neuropathy and its relation to spinal problems. Mostly, from what I have read, this occurs in people with diabetes. Hopefullly, through these message boards we can learn a little more about it. The doctors seemed to be baffled or are intentionally playing dumb. The Neuropathy most likely will not show up in an EMG. It seems somewhere that I read this does not typically show up in nerve tests but in a certain blood test, If I remember correctly. I wil try and look it up again. I have not found anything that helps. It seems some people find relief from Motrin and Neurontin, I did not. I now take Vioxx and Mexiletin and this does not help much either. I also tried Daypro and Neurontin. Vioxx, Daypro, and Celebrex are similar anti-inflammatories and they effect people differently.
