: I need to know what kind of things they do there. Im' going on 1Month & @weeks of pain & it got beyond worse last night when I tried to help my daughter stand up. All I did was pull her up by the arm & something popped and I could barley move. Could not bend or squat down or anything. I feel Alittle better today because I'm all medded up. I don't know if i should look forward to Fri when I go or start looking into sugury which would probably mean fusion Cause of my DDD in L3-4 & L4-5. L3-4 has a tear in it also. My MRI states my Disc height is maintained (whatever that means) so I'dont' know if the would do a discectomy(sp) or fusion or nothing at all because I'm bulged and not herniated(sp). How do you find a surgeon? does orth refer, or primary or pain management Doctor? any info would be helpful. sorry to ramble but i'm really frustrated!I thought I was supposed to get better instead of worse!my life is controlled by by back. Although there are people who would do anything just to be able to say that their back hurts so i should shut-up. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for all that I have.I'm just alittle upset.thanks for letting me ramble it helps!

Hi jen,
I have ddd on L1/2,2/3,3/4,4/5,5/s1. You can ramble here all you want. You will only find people that want to help. It sounds like you are fairly new to the pain, 4to8 weeks? Hope you find the best thing for you. Your primary care physion (PCP) will give you referal to a surgeon if you need an operation. I don't believe that bulges and/or a tear that isn't causing a problem with a nerve would be considered operational.
Did the MRI show the DDD? Have you had any operations? Did your doctor refer you to a pain doctor? They can do a lot of different things depending on your condition. Sometimes, as with me, their isn't anything they can do but try to relieve the pain with meds. You don't have to have a pain doc. to do that. My Internist takes care of me. There are a lot of non-medical ways to improve someones back eg exercises and ways to cut the pain eg meditation, or relaxation.
Good luck and God bless
