: : I am looking for the name of a sleeping disorder that occurs in childhood, but might not be found until adult hood. It takes all of your energy, and before long all you will want to do is sleep

: You aren't thinking of narcolepsy are you?? I have narcolepsy. It tends to be genetic. My doc told me you have it when you are born, but it gets worse as you get older and becomes obvious. I was tired all time....wanted to sleep all the time. This got worse and worse. i was exhausted all the time no matter how much I slept. Then I started to fall asleep at bad the car, in meetings, at appointments. Not everyone with narcolepsy falls asleep all the time when they don't want to. What do you think?

Today I heard of a rare sleeping disorder that
effects about 100 americans a year I think they
said (it was on a trashy program called Extra)
They called it Kline Levins Syndrome (I'm not
sure of the spelling) and I have just started
searching for information on it.

I believe that I had this virus a few years ago.
The doctor and psychiatrist told me it was just
my recurring clinical depression. I did not, nor
do I still, believe that that was the case. There
was definatly something else wrong with me. I was
constantly fatigued and would sleep for up to 18
hours a day. The odd thing is that during this
sleep I never changed position nor did I remember
my dreams (very rare for me as I usually dream in
technicolor with very high retention of the dreams).
I remember getting dressed one day and was startled
to realize that the act of changing my under wear
fatigued me to the point I had to get back to bed
for a nap!

For whatever reason the effect lessened over the
months and I am doing much better now. I still
need a lot more sleep than I did prior to this
episode but I am back at work (I had fully expected
to end up on a disability pention because of my
constant sleeping).

Whether it was the virus the TV show was talking
about or not I don't know if I'll ever know for sure.
If you have any information on this syndrome I'd love
to hear from you! Thank you for taking the time
to read this.
