unpleasant vaginal discharge and taste

This is a very personal and intimate question which I've wondered about for a while and it seems it is never acknowledged or answered in any women's health FAQ's. It's also somewhat embarrassing and awkward to ask, so, a response to it would be wonderful. I'm sure that there are millions of women with the same concern and we would all benefit from some candid, to-the-point answers.

OK, here's my dilemma:

Until about the age of 24 (I'm 26 now), I'm pretty certain that I've always had what is referred to as a "perfectly balanced vaginal flora" (PBVF) To clarify more in depth, what I consider PBVF is the following:

a very pleasant odor
a healthy abundance of natural lubrication, normally and sexually
a clear viscose like quality to the discharge, and
a good sweet-like taste to it.

Over the past two years, my boyfriend and I have both noticed that my PBVF has changed. My discharge is now less than before, thicker and not as viscose and doesn't have as much staying power (for lack of a better term). Also, it seems that it is not as pleasant an experience for my boyfriend to perform oral sex on me because of the taste/odor factors. The taste, he says, has gone from a sweet taste to a salty and sometimes sour flavor. I have been tested for STD's and yeast infections, hormone levels, etc. The two OB GYN's I consulted pretty much dismissed it saying that even though my hormone levels were "on the high end of normal (meaning testosterone), the cells in my vagina looked very healthy under the microscope, there was nothing wrong with me and that it's just a change in my body...basically, there is no cause for concern. Well, I'm not really happy with that response because I would like my body to get back to the way it was before this. Is there any advice, treatments or products that I'm missing or some advice you could throw my way for my dilemma? Also, could diet, vitamin deficiencies or smoking, etc. effect it as well? (I should tell you that I've been smoking for five years and I don't think the smoking has played a role in this since I was "normal" even while I was smoking). And if so, what could I be doing for myself to make it more pleasant? I know that my close female friends and I all have the same concerns about their bodies and how the "pleasant factor" plays a large role in our sex lives and self esteem...which tells me that there are probably millions of other women worrying about it as well. Could you help me?
