I also had anterior disectomy with fussion, and also opted for a donor bone. I had the surgery on2-6-96 it was on c-5 c-6 Ihave had muscle spasms in my upper extem. I have went back to another doctor and after tests have been told I now have herniated discs at the c-4&5 and also the c-6&7 levels as well as spine spurs posteior at all the above mention disc for another surgery??? I feel for you and I believe alot of what our doctors are telling us is a guessing game!!I do wish you the best of kuck and hope you recover in due time!!: : I am one week post-op after having Level 2 ACDF at C5-C6 w/donor bone. My main symptom for the last 3 1/2 yrs was muscle spasms in my shoulders, upper and mid-back. My left arm had a lot of weakness also, but I truly beleive the weakness was a result of the muscle spasm's also. My MRI showed 1 bulging disk at C5-C6 with impingement and two more herniated disks at C6-C7 with no cord compression. I was diagnosed with DDD, moderate spinal canal stenois and osteoarthritis all at C5-C6. My EMG was negative. I am continuing to have the muscle spasms since the surgery. My neuro-surgeon said they could last for as long as 3 months. Has anyone else had these horrid muscle spasms and can I hope for any relief from the surgery? My family doctor diagnosed me with Myofacial Pain Syndrome, and doesn't think the surgery will give me much relief. The neuro-surgeon said it will help. The only medication that helped with the spasms was valium, but of course they will not give me anymore of them, because I took them for 2 weeks straight before the surgery. I was given Percoset for my after surgery pain reliever, and it is not helping at all. Thanks for any help....

: Hi, Barbara. I've been having the same horrid muscle spasms especially bad since my last surgery in July, 1999. That was my second surgery on C-4 through C-7. My Neuro prescribed some Morphine cream to rub into the muscles...It does help. I refuse to take medications due to bad experiences in the past. I do take Glucosamine and natural stuff. The last time I saw my Neurosurgeon, he mentions Fibromyalgia as a posibble problem...Do you know about this? Thought it might help if you had another idea to consider. I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with the doctors as far as what's been happening with my case! This stuff is sometimes unbearable! Please e-mail me if you want to talk. Best of luck to you! Carol
