: I'm 38 & two weeks ago, I suffered a torn artery while playing softball, later that night I was in an ER and diagnosed as having torn the artery and suffered a stroke.

: Today, I feel very fortunate. I have almost the complete command of my left side of the body. The only lingering affects of the stroke I feel are the fatigue (i get tired pretty fast), a little difficulty writing with my left hand and a headache which has never completely gone away.

: Is it common to recover fully from a stroke? I'm not there yet but do feel I am on my way

I had a massive stroke 26/8/99. It was an arterial clot at the back of the head which affected both sides of my brain, infarcted meaning a piece of my brain died. This was complicated with a haemorage between the cerebellum and brain stem. For good measure I had a large DVT left leg a piece of which became a pulmony embolism when started on heparin (blood thinner).

Today you would not know I have had a stroke unless I told you, I am working 20 hours a week at work slowly building back to full time. I believe that I can claim a 100% recovery when medically I should be nothing better than a vegetable.

It is possible for a good recovery but it is dependant on many things. If you persavere and keep persistant with your rehab there is always hope, how can you improve if you stop.

I have achieved in a relatively short time whilst others may take years as no two strokes are the same.
