The other day I was really feeling down and out about still breaking out at the age of 32!

Well...low and behold I found pictures on the internet with celebrities with acne. Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc. They even have acne scars. This sounds horrible, but I felt a bit better knowing they too have breakouts. I think we all forget that they have makeup people, photo editing and lighting tricks on their side.

Britney Spears buys the gourmet chocolate cookies and eats by the pound, then breaks out. I am sure she gets plenty of medication to correct her problem.

Brad Pitt has Pits in his face. That guy must have had some major acne problems. He's gonna have a face like Robert Redford in a few years.

I dont know about you guys but this post really bothers me- who are we to judge others? I was judged in high school because of my acne and called such things as "pizza face". I dont know about you but I want to be bigger than that and not make fun of others the way some people have made fun of us. Why one making fun of another's misery cheer me up?!? Grow up.

I don't think they are trying to make fun of these people in any way. I think its just that, a lot of people got teased because of acne problems growing up and feel bad or down about themselves, then there are stars like Brad Pitt and Britney Spears that either talk about acne or you can tell have had problems and its comforting at times to know that even though they don't have perfect skin, they are considered attractive and have made millions in an industry that stresses perfection.

Thats always been my beef with Hollywood. These movie stars are put up as perfect and they do not look anything like they appear on screen. So the rest of the normal people worship this "lookism" and it is a fraud. It encourages normal people to spend millions on make up and other crap and it is a waste of time and money.

I agree openseason; they should let them look the way they naturally look.It would make everyone feel better. The stars must feel inadequate having to have special lighting, etc.

These afflicted stars must be really self-conscious about meeting fans in real life.

I really don't see anyone making fun of anyone else here. It think that it was specifically stated that JUST KNOWING that these "beautiful people" have imperfections make the rest of us mere mortals feel a little relieved. Nobody is trying to be mean or malicious here! If you don't want to read the thread, then you have the freedom to not click on it!

I don't think we're trying to make fun of these people or anyone with acne. If anything, most of us here are probably a little more sympathetic to them.

But what we DO feel is a lot less like we're freakish because we DO have it. We feel a lot more NORMAL knowing that even the "beautiful people" have it,... and to know that we see airbrushed pictures or pics of them with caked on makeup,... helps us to come to terms with the fact that everyone can get it, and so many of us do.

Good grief! By no means was I trying to "make fun" of a celebrity by stating a pure fact they have acne like everyone on this board. And do you think I was doing some happy dance and wished them more acne postules all over their face? NO!!! I didn't!

I for one am tired of the "media's/celebrities" portrayl of being flawless. It's not only the body but the skin. They have lighting, make-up & hair people, digital imaging, and the $$$ or given expensive clothes. I actually have to commend those celebrities that let their acne show. It shows they are human like us!!! Not only do they have public heartaches or happiness, but they have acne too!

I have a friend who's wedding I was not able to attend - and Cameren Diaz stood up as the maid of honor. At any rate, she still looked as beautiful with a picture taken with a Kodak camera - just not as "hollywood" perfect.

Ugh, I know I know what you are all saying! I think actually we are all together on this topic anyway, no one is criticizing the individuals per se, but we are criticizing the media and Hollywood and those who present us with images of the "ideal." Hmmmm....I wonder why there is an ideal anyway? Maybe because...if there wasn't...could you sell your product as easily? If we were content with how we looked, could you sell the latest product that would "fix" that problem? Could you sell your newest anti-wrinkle cream? Could you sell your newest anti-pore cream? Of course not!!!! So what's the trick? Make the public feel disatisfied with what they have. Make them feel that what they have isn't enough. And how do you do that? Present them with one, wholey unreal, wholey unantainable image, that they have to live up to. And guess what? IF (and that a big IF) they do MANAGE to attain that image through the infinite purchasing of products and/or elective surgery...CHANGE IT!!! THAT's RIGHT! Change the image!! Now they have something NEW they have to live up to!! IT's the basic rule of advertising...create disatisfaction among the public, and make them BUY BUY BUY!!!
Aren't you pissed off now? You should be!!

Leonardo DiCaprio wait he might of broke out when he was a kid but i just saw him at the golden globes and his skin was flawless and with the lighting they had you could tell if his skin was bad or not and his was good, Plus brad pit has scars from what looks like old acne but he doesnt brake out any more. Camreon Diaz still does brakeout she even talks about it. But i still think this thread is meen

"Brad Pitt has Pits in his face. That guy must have had some major acne problems. He's gonna have a face like Robert Redford in a few years."

Robert Redford is old and was out in the sun for way to long thats why he looks like that but as far as brad pit goes its not like he still gets acne he used to. Plus he is a famous movie star with a great looking wife and lots of money. I just dont get how you people can talk about these people in a way other than up lifiting cause talking about some ones acne is not uplifting

*shakes head*

Delphi nailed it. The media is about sell, sell, sell, by teaching you to want a product. Look all exercise machines are advertised by 20 year old models who dont even work out.

I understand to a point where you guys are going with the thread. But it really does seem like you guys are trying to make your selves feel better by pointing out flaws in othere people and i tought the board was to talk about acne and how to treat it. Not a social gathering to talk about celebrities with acne

I have to agree with TimDream. No one HAS to comment about my post. And I looked at the message board topics and it says you can post on Acne or RELATED subject!

I was just speaking my opinion about the celebrities and media in regards to Acne. This board is full of everyone trying to find a "fix" for their acne, including myself. I personally probably wouldn't feel so pressured if I saw more of the "raw" hollywood. But again, THAT'S JUST ME! I was shocked when I read an article on Jaime Lee Curtis, and she didn't use any fancy lighting, special computers on her body and let a magazine take a picture of her. I was shocked how different she looked, and very impressed that she showed women not to pressure themselves about their imperfections. (that is what the article about)

And, as far as Leonardo DiCarpio, I will refrain from commenting on what you saw - but I did just make a call and found out from someone who knows him personally that his skin is an ongoing problem for him.

My closing statement for the rest of this post is this:
No matter how much money, no matter who you are - acne can effect ANYONE! There is a struggle no matter who you are. We shouldn't be soooo hard on ourselves to live up to an image we see, and not let our acne, scars, indents hold us back from anything or what we want to do. This does NOT apply to everyone & not everyone is held hostage about their acne - but I find myself sometimes slipping into that stereo-typical mold.

Alive777,
if you don't get any pleasure out of discussing celebrities with acne, don't click on this post! is it that hard?!! also...they are superior? superior to whom? us? why? because they're rich? well....what about doctors who save people's lives, or teachers who patiently put up with kids....or our own parents? you are a little pathetic! or are celebrities superior in your mind because they pay outstanding amounts to make all their imperfections disappear? vjc715 only wrote this post to make us all aware that we aren't the only people with acne. to make us aware that we are still beautiful with our acne...just like celebrities!! vjc wasn't making fun of them or picking them apart!!! okay...it was just a fact. so everyone who can't seem to get over that....get out of this post!! argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And besides, even if this was a mean thread (which it is not), who honestly thinks that Brad, Cameron, or Britney are going to be reading this? It's really not the same as if someone in your class makes a mean comment to your face.

No one ever said anything about celebrities being superior--If anything, this post says they're NOT.

I do not think celebrities are superior at all. If anything they are more screwed up than the average individual(for whatever reason), and they'll be the first to admit it.

I don't think anyone is "superior" to anyone else; we are all equal.

That's just my .02 worth

BTW, I'm PMS, so I'm a Biatch today, LOL.

hmmmm...I found it interesting that I found a thread on the acne board (currently on page 8) dated 1-14-03 called "Britney" where others were talking about celebrity acne.

On a lighter note - Jamime Curtis was on Oprah yesterday talking about the magazine article/shoot she did for More with no special lighting or anything. Did anyone see it? Both Oprah and her said they have makeup people working on them for a couple of hours!

I would be interested as to what treatments they have used for their acne, as they have to wear gobs or makeup and the lighting must kill their skin.

Thanks to all those who understand where I was going on this post and didn't take it so negatively. By no means did I mean to "start" anything ;-)
