Someone mentioned Pamela Anderson's HCV in another post, and I was wondering if anyone knows why she decided not to treat. Remember last year, she said she was taking a year off for tx? I just read somewhere that she was drinking a glass of wine at some event and said her liver was in better shape now than when she was diagnosed. Huh? Anyone hear any more detail? Just wondering, since she's the only celebrity I've heard of with "our" disease.

Not many people will responed to this question on this board, because most are pro treatment, I'm also on the
treatment 23 weeks today(geno 1a). I will probaly stop at 24 since I'm on disability and my job called me ealier this week and said they are not obligated to hold my job any longer and will discontinue my insurance. But another factor is it seems most people seem negative then there viral load comes back with in the first year of stopping treatment. It seems to be a temporoary solution not a permanent answer. Pamela is probaly doing the natuaral route. Naomi Judd did both natural and treatmeant. I will also now look more in to the natural alternatives. I have suffered from bad sides for almost 6 months, look forward to getting my life back, If I have to find another job so be it. I hope this helped. Any one else dare to reply to this question!

I dare! And I am so sick of people drawing lines in the sand for "pro treatment" and "naysayers". Can we let that go now? Geez, thats getting so old! Most of us in here have HCV and shouldn't be battling each other. We need to focus as a group on finding a vaccine and a cure instead of putting out hidden inuendos. If ya got something to say, say it!

Anyway, I heard that she didn't start treatment because she has no fibrosis and has numerous projects on the way. She was afraid the side effects would be too severe for her to continue working too strenuously. Would one glass of wine hurt her? Probably not and its her choice too. Not for me though. I will never, ever drink again!

Pam is God's creation (ok, no silicone jokes)but boy oh boy does she get blasted in here! Kid Rock doesn't seem to mind her though! He's kinda cute in his own way too! Not my type though.

I do wish she would speak out more on HCV. She draws a whole lot of attention!

Jeannie

HCVSD-sorry about your bad sides. That's gotta be tough. I didn't know an employer could let you go if you were on medical leave. I thought they had to give some type of position when you returned to work?

Its like getting kicked while you're on the ground.

HCVSD, that's terrible about your job! I also thought you were protected while you were on medical leave. Good luck with feeling better and your job situation.

Jeannie, thanks for the info on Pam. I never heard why she didn't do tx so that explains it -- no fibrosis. I have heard people making fun of her (on the radio or TV) because of the HCV. Sad. I can't keep up with her and Kid Rock -- every week my "Us" magazine has a different story -- they're off, they're on....she's back with Tommy Lee....blah blah blah. Maybe we don't want her as our "spokesperson" -- too flighty! ha ha

Coincidentally enough, there's a blurb in today's Parade Magazine about this. Someone asks how Pamela is responding to interferon treatments for her HCV. The answer:

"Anderson, 36, who announced she had the chronic liver disease in March 2002, is doing well. But she decided against using interferon after extensive research. Instead, she's taking a homeopathic approach, which has been working. Anderson says she encourages others to do their own research, then follow their hearts in choosing treatment options."

So there's the update!

That's the smartest thing I have seen her quoted as saying.

On Larry King, she said she was afraid of progressing to "psoriasis."

Good on her!

Hi!!When it first came out about Pamela Anderson, I read that her liver was in very good shape. She was in a Stage 0-1, so if that is the case, she more than likely has time to wait for better medications to get approved. Of course that's just what I read. Not everyone when diagnosed HAS to treat right @ that moment~~~~~some can afford to wait. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them, I had to treat fast and aggresively.
