You have to buy a good carbohydrate counter. AND buying one of his books is NOT a bad idea -- there is SO much more information there. I really think this is the way to go, but I have such a craving for bread or potatoes sometimes that it can be difficult.

The Cabbage Soup diet is supposedly not so healthy to follow for a long time, but I actually felt great on it the first week. I think the copy I had said that you can be on it for a couple weeks then you HAVE to take at least a week off before starting again. I'm not sure. I was SO sick of soup by the second, though...

Day 1 - Soup, Fruit
Day 2 - Soup, Low-Starch Vegetables, 1 Baked Potato
Day 3 - Soup, Fruit (DO NOT have bananas), Low-Starch Vegetables
Day 4 - Soup, bananas (3 mx.) - Skim Milk
Day 5 - Soup, 10-20 oz. Beef, up to six tomatoes (1 can)
Day 6 - Soup, Beef, Low-Starch Vegetables
Day 7 - Soup, Brown Rice, Low-Starch Vegetables

I THINK this is the recipe for the soup - there seems to be a lot of variations out there.
6 large green onions
2 green peppers
2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
1 bunch celery
1 package Lipton Onion Soup mix
1/2 (large) or 1 (small) head cabbage
Season to taste with salt, pepper, tabasco, etc.

The rules are these:
DO eat as much as you want of anything listed for the day, unless specific quantities are given
Drink Tea, Unsweetened Fruit Juice, Unsweetened Cranberry Juice, Water, and Black Coffee
DO NOT have bread (or crackers, rice, & potatoes, unless indicated for that day)
DO NOT have alcohol
DO NOT have carbonated drinks (DO NOT have diet pop)
