: : I am an A blood type and I am on the Atkins diet right now, I just started it. You got me
: : worried by saying A type should not eat meat, we should stick to carbs.
: : If you get anymore information about it, I would be glad to hear about it.

: : Thanks

: The book she was referring to is "Eat Right for Your Type". You can get the book at any bookstore or online at You can read online reviews of it there also. According to the book, Blood Type A does better by avoiding red meat and sticking to protein sources such as fish and chicken and eating plenty of vegetables. Type O is the oldest and most common bloodtype and does best on a diet that emphasizes meat and limits or avoids grains. Type B also do well on the meat based diet and can also better tolerate dairy products. I'm a Type B and have been following Dr. Atkins diet for several years now with success. I eat lots of meat (all types), eggs, and cheese, avoid sugars and grains, and eat lots of nutrient rich low-starch vegetables.

Another good point you made, Alan. My husband is also type B, and he eats a lot of meat and cheese while staying lean. I was also lean before I got married ( I hardly ever ate cheese and never ate meat). Well after 5 years of living together, I gradually began to eat like my husband, and slowly I've gained 25 lbs.

I have been struggling to lose weight the past 4 years now, and the only thing that has made a noticeable difference is giving up meat and dairy.

Yes, there has been critisism of "Eat right for your type"...that it's just another fad diet, but I believe that the basic principles of this book should be taken seriously. It has taken all the mystery out of dieting for me. I now know what I should and shouldn't eat, and it's now that simple for me.
